Details Emerge in Full Sail Student Stabbing, Hate Crime

School security held Nunez until deputies arrived. They recovered a screwdriver deputies said Nunez used to attack Murray.

When a deputy searched Nunez to see if he had additional weapons, he told the law-enforcement officer, “African Americans do nothing but steal and talk about him behind his back,” the report said.

Full Sail University officials issued a statement Thursday in response to the attack, notifying students it was an isolated incident and there is no further threat.

“Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to all of us at Full Sail. We do not condone or tolerate violence or discrimination of any type. Thankfully, the victim in this incident was not seriously harmed, but we will continue to implement precautions to maintain a safe environment for everyone at Full Sail University,” the school’s statement said.

Nunez was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and disruption of an educational institution.

He remained at the Orange County Jail on Friday and was placed on psychological observation. Jail officials said his $3,600 bond was posted but there was a hold in place and he was not immediately released.

Because of his status, Nunez was not eligible to be interviewed by the media.
