Does Chance The Rapper Endorsement of Amara Enyia Make Her Standout Among Crowded Chicago Mayoral Race?

The 31 year old lawyer, is a community activist and director of  Austin Chamber of Commerce. Her advantage might have come courtesy of Chance the Rapper. He gave his endorsement for Eniya’s mayoral campaign. The announcement came today (10.16.18) at Chicago’s City Hall. “I’d like to say very narcissistically, if I back you, you have a chance — absolutely,” Chance said at the press conference.

Not only is Chance a famous, Grammy award inning artist; he is also has been extremely active in the Chicago community. He has raised millions for Chicago Public Schools and has been a outspoken critic of Rahm Emanuel. His endorsement gives Eniya star power, but also a possibility that she may attract the votes of the young people of Chicago. “Chicago can only be a great city if more than 30 percent of eligible voters are registered and participating in our elections,” she said.

Of course, most politicians sound promising before they get elected. In the case of Amara Eniya her words has gotten little more attention. “I want to work with somebody that’s about change. Somebody that’s about our community . . . Somebody that’s about fairness. And the one person in my research of this wide-open race [whose] views align with me would obviously be candidate Amara Enyia.” Chance the Rapper said. Without a doubt, Amara Eniya has gotten a big boost with this endorsement. The question is, will it be enough to get her elected Mayor of Chicago?
