Don’t judge me because I cried while watching the NBA Draft

Recently the NBA had its annual draft and you see a lot of young men that not only change their own circumstances but also their families. With that said, it is an emotional evening for a lot of people. You see and hear the stories of these athletes who have almost dedicated their whole life to get to the point where they can hear their names called in the draft.

Take for instance MarJon Beauchamp, who was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 24th pick. Marjon who is 21, which is old in comparison to the other players who were drafted comes from the Seattle Washington area. He went to three different high schools for various reasons that included a lack of motivation in class and sickness from mold in his house.

Instead of going to college, he took a year off to train with a company in San Francisco to strengthen his chances to make it to the NBA. Then he caught COVID, then he went to a Community College, then he went to the G League, which is a preparation league that is sponsored by the NBA. Then he made it to draft night.

My friend came over during the draft and happened to see the moment when Marjon name was called. He was emotional, and so was his family, which made my friend emotional. What she didn’t know was that I already shed a couple of tears watching these young men fulfilled their dreams. It is a beautiful thing to see them complete their dreams after years of hard work.

Not all of them will make it to the NBA. Unfortunately, the path to staying in the NBA can be tougher than the journey to making it there. However, one night, we all get a chance, their journey, their joy, and their tears.
