Blacktruth.net Exclusive Interview with the Legendary Erick Sermon of EPMD

Black Truth News:  With the rise of social media, you don’t see too many artists come out and give their fans that human interaction. How do you feel about that lack of interaction amongst the people and the instant gratification that our society now demands?

Erick Sermon: It is what it is. Listen the situation with the kids is if nobody not going to tell them anything, they not going to know anything, so that’s why I’m here to tell them something different. So they can know, you don’t have the one record for the moment. People want to hear you tell them something different.

Like I said before, tell them what you going through, if you work at Mcdonald’s, let them know that. Tupac said let them feel your pain. Meaning everything you say is real. Because if you not keeping it real, eventually you will get exposed as a sucker. You can say this, that, and the third, but the truth is, someone is going to come up who knows you or your cousin from way back when and say he is a sucker, you going to get exposed if you not keeping it real. So why would you wanna get exposed; when you could have kept it all the way to 100 in the beginning.

Black Truth News: The last question, I know you said the music is secondary, but there are so many people that depend on your sound, artists, and fans alike; is anything coming out new to satisfy your audience?

Erick Sermon: You know I can’t promise anybody anything. All I’m gonna say is go out there and search for real music because it’s out there.

Black Truth News:  Well I’m tired of bumping “Mrs. International” with you and Method Man and Redman (laughs). So we need something new from you. Can you tell the people where they can find you nowadays?

Erick Sermon: Well I’m on Twitter @iamericksermon and on Facebook at Erick Shawn Sermon. But I’m going to start little notes up there; because people are always asking me for advice on how to get into the industry. I remember Soulja Boy spent two years on Myspace before he got big. Just out there promoting, he chose the web and the web got him a look. You got to use that free media as much as you can. Have all your friends, and their friends blast your shit. That’s how you get hot, your inner circle can make you big.
