Josie Harris, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s former long-term partner, spoke out against allegations in a recent documentary that her claims of domestic abuse by the champion boxer — claims that landed Mayweather in prison for two months — were false.

Speaking publicly about the incident for the first time in an interview with Yahoo! Sports writer Martin Rogers, Harris said that the events of Sept. 9, 2010 could have ended tragically. She felt compelled to speak up now because Mayweather, who has three children with Harris, called the charges “over-exaggerated” and “trumped up” in a Showtime documentary called 30 Days in May.
