Where’s The Love
Kevin told me that Willie Dixon once said that “the Blues is the root, and everything else is the fruit” Kevin backed that up by saying “I tell everyone who says Blues is the father of Jazz, that Blues had a grandbaby and that was Hip Hop”
I personally wonder where the love from the Hip Hop community was. A lot of the samples that are used in today’s music come from these guys; or better yet a lot of the guys they are sampling, stole they sound from these Blues guys.
As Kevin said “it’s like having Grandma’s recipe but Grandma ain’t there to cook it; something is gon be missing.” He continued “a lot of these Hip Hop cats be using samples and don’t give credit to the artist they are sampling from.”
Even to the greater extent for me is the lack of awareness and apathy from Black folks concerning our history; out of the five people who was there, I was the only Black guy. I did get a chance to converse with one of the visitors.
