Former Detroit Mayor Denied Bond, Judge Says He Is a Flight Risk

Judge Edmunds made a statement in which she said that Kilpatrick is an intimidating person. He tried to get multiple people to lie on the witness stand for him and so she is recommending that both Kilpatrick and Ferguson remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshall until they go through sentencing.

Kilpatrick’s defense team is looking for a hearing for the appeal, however the U.S. Attorney says that they are just trying to bring up the issues again that he already brought up in court. These issues however would not change the decision in anyway, so the U.S. Attorney does not see the need for another trial.

Kilpatrick’s mother, Carolyn Cheek Kilpatrick, is fighting for her son’s release on bond. She has offered up collateral to ensure that her son stays put, however this has not been accepted. There is no set date for sentencing at the moment. In being that Kilpatrick is a flight risk and has already violated parole before, it does not look like his appeal will be granted at this time.
