GRIND CORNER: (Awol)

Black Truth News:  What’s the Most rewarding thing about the job?

Awol: The most rewarding part is when the headliner takes the stage and you can look back at all the opening acts that just killed it, and be proud of what this city’s local talent can do. There’s no denying Chicago has a lot of talent, but we’re hustlers too. It makes me proud when a truly underground artist gets 25-30 people out to see their show. That’s whats most rewarding to me.

Black Truth News: What’s motivates you to continue to grind on a daily basis?

Awol: These up and coming artists are hungry, and that hunger is contagious and it fuels my fire. So I do these shows for that artist who yearns for more exposure, who wants to improve their stage show. Rappers and singers who are really serious about this music business. On a more selfish level, I do get a personal high when my shows are jam-packed.. Its a powerful feeling when you can mobilize 700 or more people in one place for one dope show.

Black Truth News: Any advice to promoters/artists/producers out there?

Awol: Don’t feel like you have to do it alone. The entertainment business as a whole is all about strong partners creating larger than life projects. Please be careful who you partner with tho, because if you are a real go-getter there are gonna be piggy-backers out there who want to hop on for that free ride and take a piece of the pie.. if you can recognize them early, cut em out your circle. *But never ever let one, or even a few bad experiences stop you from forming a great team. Keep grinding…
