Hawthorne tattoo shop owner creates Batman art to help shooting victims fund

A local artist is doing his part to use his love of Batman to help people suffering from a tragedy that has rocked the nation.

Christian Masot, 33, of Kearny, is an artist and owner of Silk City Tattoo in Hawthorne. Like many fans of the Caped Crusader, Masot was looking forward to seeing the last film in the Batman trilogy “The Dark Knight Rises.” That enthusiasm was tempered considerably when on July 20, a mass shooting occurred at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. during a midnight screening of the film. A gunman set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others, the highest number of casualties in an American mass shooting. James Eagan Holmes was arrested outside the theater minutes later.
