Iran Hit by Magnitude 7.8 Quake Felt From Dubai to Delhi

Iranian state television said the Bushehr plant, which is about 1,140 kilometers (710 miles) from the epicenter of today’s quake, is functioning normally.

In Pakistan, at least five people were killed and 1,000 buildings destroyed, Iran’s Press TV reported citing its own correspondent. Pakistan’s disaster authority said some homes collapsed and further details weren’t immediately available. In Karachi, Pakistan’s financial center, residents ran into the streets, and buildings were also shaken in northern India.

On the other side of the Persian Gulf, buildings were evacuated in Dubai and other cities where the quake was felt.

Iranian state television said 200 emergency tents have been sent to Saravan. Turkey’s Red Crescent said it was preparing aid to be taken to Iran, including tents, blankets and food.
