Life360 is about connecting, not stalking, says founder

Founder Chris Hulls admits the challenge: “Is tracking my family stalking someone? No. It’s about making it easier to connect with people.”

So he hooked up with BMW during the South By Southwest festival and worked out an arrangement to have the new and yet to be released electric I3 cars shuttle folks around town. BMW also agreed to feature Life360 in the I3 and other select BMWs later this year.

“Our core feature is location-sharing,” says Hulls. “Call up the app and see where everyone is. That people got to school, got to work. It makes coordination easier.”

With the app in the dashboard, when you have to pick up your kids from soccer, no need to ask for their address. The app takes you directly to them, using the GPS of the smartphone to relay the info.

At a conference whose highlights included government-snooping chats with NSA leaker Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Hulls was happy to present an app that’s the anti-Facebook. Where you can share things privately.
“We are opt in only,” he says. “You are in control of your information. We will not share your information.”
