Medical Marijuana Business Locations to Be Restricted Under Proposal

The proposal would add restrictions on top of the state bill signed in August that would cap the number of cultivation centers to 22 and number of dispensaries to 60 within Illinois.

“As the City of Chicago prepares to comply with the landmark change in state law which will allow the sale of medical marijuana to begin across Illinois next year, it is both timely and necessary to lay down a blueprint which spells out exactly how this new law will affect Chicagoans,” the proposal’s cosponsor Ald. Ed Burke (14th) said in a statement.

Under the proposed rules, the businesses would be restricted to manufacturing districts and would have to provide a minimum number of parking spots determined by the facility’s size.

In Wicker Park, a clinic at 1723 N. Ashland Ave. called Good Intentions LLC has already announced plans to provide prescriptions to be used at future dispensaries.

The state is expected to announce plans to regulate the medical marijuana business in January.
