Mixtape Review: Chris Crack: “Kitchen in the Bassment”

That curiosity lead me to requesting his new mixtape; and satisfying one criteria from the entertainers manual for Chris Crack, which is “always keep them wanting for more.”

When I finally received the correct link for this new mixtape the message read that ‘you won’t be disappointed;’ and I wasn’t. I think Kitchen in the Bassment is a good mixtape, but honestly I expected more. After listening to Kitchen in the Bassment, I felt like the baseball scout who just saw the next great ‘five-tool’ player; he can run, catch, throw and hit, but you still got to send him to AA for more game time experience. The bars and beats are on point for the most part, with production from a gentleman named Cutta; but I wished the mixtape carried the overall tone of smooth tracks like “Faded” and “Dope Bitch.”

I mean if you want to talk about weed and swag throughout your whole mixtape; that’s fine. Redman and countless others have made great music talking about only that, plus I am willing to compromise on content if the music is fresh and original; but tracks like “No Molly” and “Droppin Jewels” could have been replaced by songs with more substance.
