Mount Westmore talks about their Supergroup and Preview Songs from New Album

I was curious how the dynamic of the four individuals meshed together in creating the album. E-40 talked about how their friendship contributed to the seamless process of putting the songs together.

“Ah man we jamming… We were just playing music right now. Yeah, it’s been natural like an afro! Put this together like you said, it’s hella fun. We all good friends been knowing each other 30 plus years and we all get along and then we all icons in our own way in our own, in this Hip Hop game, not just West coast but overall, we brought so much to hip hop and the culture over the years. Each one of us has played a big part some sort of way. You understand me? So basically, these songs right here are us trying to find that. We don’t want it to sound like we trying to be hella new school and we ain’t trying to sound hella old school. We just wanted that happy medium where we give you that vintage, you know what I’m saying? That vintage sound that we got, but at the same time with a new school little twist to it. So, we feel like we felt a happy medium with this particular record.”

I’m not going to lie and say every song I heard was over-the-top incredible, but I will say that out of the five I listen to, three of them were good. However, as E-40 stated they weren’t trying to appease everyone. I think the four individuals realize that their legacies are cemented no matter what.

Yet, they still want to make a mark with this Mt. Westmore project. All three answered the question of what type of impact they intend to make with the release of the new album.

“I just think it’s; we want to be an untouchable group,” Cube said. He continued: “We want to be a point in hip hop where you say, damn, you know can aspire and do something greater than yourself and I hope sometime in the future we’ll get a Mount East more in a Mount sophomore where the giants of that region get together and do a group, not just an album. Now we not just doing an album, we’re a group, meaning you will see Mount Westmore from now on in some way, shape, or form. So, I think it’s just great in every shape or form. And it might not ever be matched. But what’s cool is that somebody might do it one day”

Too Short followed that up by saying that the group is “trailblazing and just trying to show some, I’m not gonna say people just trying to show that hip hop is cool to have a good time at this age in your career.”

He continued: “We still having a good time. This is fun. And we extending the bag because I still, no matter what I do, Mount Westmore, I still get all the same Too Short offers. Like the phone, I’m pretty sure for you guys, the phone ain’t never stopped ringing about I need Ice Cube, I need 40, I need Snoop. So, there’s a Mount Westmore, a new phone line that’s ringing and the album comes out December night. But the group has already made millions of dollars. I’ve never been in a situation where I’m making millions before the damn project come out. So, something about the examples that we are setting is a new template for hip hop. So, it’s like he said SouthMore, EastMore whatever, you know what I’m saying? However, you form it together. The Voltron monster that we created, the giant robot we created is it’s a cash cow. So, it’s like this is the best side hustle a nigga could have for real!”

Finally, E-40 wrapped it up by saying they want to be “a good example for the new generation as well to show that hey youngsters, y’all can do it too. Y’all can get some of y’all best guys out there and put together a group. You know what I mean? So, it’s all about leaving your sin on this earth when you leave. We wanna leave a good taste in everybody’s mouth, you know what I mean?”

Mount Westmore’s self-titled album will be released on all platforms on December 9th. In the meantime, check out some of their new videos from the project.
