Texas Executes Black Woman Amid Racism and Anti-Death Penalty Protests

McCarthy gave a final statement that included peaceful words and a reference to her lord and savior. McCarthy calmly said:

This is not a loss. This is a win. You know  where I’m going. I’m going home to Jesus. I love you all.” (The Daily Mail)

In the final statement however, McCarthy did not make any direct references of the murder victim in her case or the victim’s family. McCarthy’s main supporters have included her ex-husband, her attorney, and her spiritual advisor. They were all present at her execution.

On January 29, 2013, BlackBlueDog.com reported that McCarthy’s execution was halted earlier this year so that her attorneys could have more time to appeal their client’s death sentence. Those final appeals were exhausted before a Texas judge moved McCarthy’s execution date up this past March. The date was moved from April 3rd to June 26th.

McCarthy was found guilty of beating, robbing, and fatally stabbing 71-year-old Dorothy Booth, a retired psychology professor. Booth formerly worked at the El Centro Community College in Dallas, Texas. Booth was also McCarthy’s neighbor.
