50 Cent & Floyd Mayweather Wasted Opportunity

Let’s not forget; “Money” Mayweather just got out of jail for a domestic dispute with his baby’s mother. He used that altercation to fuel publicity for his otherwise boring fight against Miguel Cotto, only afterward did he served his 90 day sentence. To be frank, where I’m from, the real men, the OG’s, didn’t handle their disputes in this manner. If you had a problem with someone, especially someone from your crew, you confront that man, face to face, and settle your differences like men. But these two guys have no shame when it comes to publicity; they are masters at generating attention to their sometimes lagging careers. 50 Cent hasn’t a hit in ages, and the only thing that interest boxing fans concerning Floyd Mayweather, is when he is going to fight Pacquiao.

So when 50 Cent comes out publically and says that the whole charade between the two men was a “publicity stunt, to get Floyd some attention since he got out of jail;” you have to believe that it has a ring of truth to it. But then again, you don’t know what to believe; you had rumors swirling that 50 was messing with Floyd’s girl, that he was trying to replace Mayweather’s longtime advisor Al Haymon, or that Floyd’s attitude has changed since being released from prison.

Outlook for the Future 50 floyd 4

Whatever the reason is behind these two exchanging love taps is irrelevant to me. I really don’t care. What was important to me was the image of strength it gave to the people of the communities these brothers came from. What was important to me was the inspiration it gave to aspiring brothers and sisters, who want to be successful and build something with other successful people.

Their partnership, regardless of the premise, gave some hope that we as Black people can work together and create something.

Some people may not recognize the significance of their union. Even those two, might not ever acknowledge the impact that their bond created, but it reminds me briefly of Mike Tyson and Tupac Shakur. Before his death, Tupac befriended former heavy weight champion Mike Tyson; it was toward the end of Tyson’s career, but you can sense the excitement and pride amongst the people when those two walk down the aisle to the ring together. I felt the same way when I saw 50 walking with Mayweather to the ring.
The question is now, are we going to see these two smiling, and counting money together, representing the true essence of a ‘money team’?
Or will be regulating to two grown men arguing, and exchanging insults and pictures of each other through a computer screen?
My question to you is which image would you like to see?
