Why do we care about Michael Sam?

In 2014, I don’t think it is such a culture shock that an athlete is gay. I agree it takes courage to make an announcement to the whole world about what your sexual preference is; but is really necessary to make that announcement? From my understanding, being gay means you elect to sleep with the same sex, so why is important for people to know who you sleep with? Why do we to know?

I felt the same way in 2010, when Tiger Woods had a press conference in Florida announcing that he had cheated on his former wife Elin Nordegren. “Repeated irresponsible behavior, I had affairs, I have cheated. … I stopped living by the core values I was taught.” Tiger said on that Friday morning.

My reaction was like that’s your business homie; now can we watch the “Top Ten” on Sportscenter?

It should be noted that in the case of Tiger Woods his image was a part of his cash cache. He banked off that wholesome, golden family image, which obviously lost credibility when his affairs were exposed. That press conference was not only an apology to the fans who believed that persona; but also a plea to the corporate sponsors who bankrolled it.

No human being is perfect and will sin in some way or another before it is over, so who amongst us is qualified to place judgment on the next man?
