Yankees’ Derek Jeter Doesn’t Allow Camera Phones in His Florida Mansion

Derek Jeter has a strict “no camera or phones” rule when it comes to his sprawling Florida mansion.

We’re told the famously private Yankee has a basket in the foyer of his 30,875-square-foot, multimillion dollar Davis Island home, dubbed by locals “St. Jetersburg.” All guests are expected to plunk down their camera phones before entering his castle.

According to a source, “He points and says, ‘Phones go there,’ so no one can take pictures inside his house,” which makes sense when you consider someone so famous has gone through his career with a modicum of privacy.

As Bob’s Blitz reminds us, there have been some rather odd tidbits leak out about the Yankee captain’s private life. The more peculiar is his way of gifting baskets to women he squires home for the evening.

If you recall, The New York Post’s Emily Smith reported back in December of 2011 about the autographed gift bags Jeter is purported to hand out to his dates.

A source spoke with Smith at the time and explained that Jeter doesn’t just kick out his dates the next morning. Instead, he has a car with “a gift basket containing signed Jeter memorabilia, usually a signed baseball” waiting for them.

What’s more, the source stated, “He normally doesn’t go out with girls. He will have them come to his house. He’ll have cocktail parties. His friends invite girls they think he’ll be interested in. He’s very shy.”

To that end, he would have his dates go through the back entrance at his Trump Tower apartment. Couple that with the fact that an unflattering picture once incited a “Fat-gate” conflagration amid media, and you see why Jeter is so careful in his private life.

Still, it has to be weird stepping into the one place on this planet where people actually gather around for a nice chat without spending half the time locked into their Twitter and Instagram feeds on their phones.

Hey, perhaps Jeter is onto something here.
