Black Support For Stephon Clark Becomes Confusing After His Hateful Tweets About Black Women Surface

The sad thing about Stephon Clarke, is that he is not alone in his thinking. I wrote an article, about how the rapper Kodak Black made comments about not liking dark skin women. Kodak didn’t dismissed the entire race of Black women, the way Clarke did, he simply said he preferred light skin women because he was “Black already.” Nonetheless, his comments were similar to Clarke because it brought to light the self prejudice within  the Black community. There is a section of Black folks who believe that lighter skin is better. By the same token, there are Black people who just don’t like other Black people altogether. Ironically, it be the darkest people in our community who have these sentiments. My belief is that some of this thought process stems from society being more acceptant of lighter skin Blacks. That bias also exists in the Black community, weather we want to admit it or not. Darker skin Blacks, sometimes get picked on about their skin complexion. This may caused some self hatred in individuals as they get older and began to make their way within our society.

Regardless of the rationale behind Stephon Clark’s thinking, those tweets are not sitting well with some in the Black community. As you can imagine, a lot of Black women are saying a lot of unkind Mr. Clark and his family; even in his death. Here is the video from Willie D’s Youtube channel regarding the situation. Actually this is where I first caught wind of the situation and decided to write about it.

I was reading some of the comments people made against Stephon Clark and I was thinking going in on him. Some people in the Black community don’t think Clark and his family deserve the support from other Blacks. They feel if he didn’t identify with Blacks, why should we sympathize for him. I even read some comments that said, he got what he deserved. That he learned the hard way that he was still a Black man in America.

I personally wouldn’t go as far to say that he deserved to die. No one should get their life taken away unjustly. However, I felt it was ironic that the very skin he despised, was the reason for his demise. No matter who you are, or what you do, the treatment for Blacks in this country remain the same. In the words of Ice Cube: “this is what they think of you.” What do you think about Stephon Clark’s comments?     Leave your thoughts, opinions and comments below.

  1. Would someone please offer proof that these tweets or accounts are authentic. Friends? Family? Associates? Someone who knew him in real life and followed him on Twitter at the time of these tweets who’s willing to go on the record.
