Black Thought & 9th Wonder Fall Short of Expectations With ‘Streams of Thought’ Album [Review + Stream]

The album just felt incomplete and quite frankly not good enough to just have five songs. It starts off with a bang, the first song Twofifteen is bananas and makes you salivate at the mouth for more. The second track 9th vs. Thought is great, but not better than the first and after that things take a nosedive. I didn’t really like the third song Dostpyesvsky that much. The track features Rapsody who in my opinion is not as good as advertised. I heard Making a Murderer some months ago, it is nice and has a killer featured from Styles P but it’s not that spectacular. The last song Thank You, is the only song with a concept and a standard hook, but the chorus is not that great. Then it’s over.

Maybe I am over critical of the album because I am a big fan of both of the artists. However I became of fan of Black Thought and 9th Wonder because they have given me so much great product. I personally thought that if the album had more songs, especially with themes and concepts, it would have balanced these other five tracks out. Black Thought lyrics are on point, but I dare I say it becomes a little too much rapping. It seems like he is just giving us one big Funk Flex freestyle session throughout the album. 9th’s beats are good, but not all of them are head-bangers. In the end, I think when dealing with this caliber of talent, we should have gotten five masterpieces, not five great good and so-so songs. With that said, I give Streams of Thought a C+. I can’t go lower than that because on their worst day, Thought and 9th are better than average. I can’t go higher because I just felt it could have been better. The album stream is below. Check it out and let me know what you think.
