Colin Kaepernick jersey sales skyrocket from 20th to number one after his big controversy

According to SFGate, Kaepernick’s jersey has gone from 20th to the number one jersey since the player’s act of civil disobedience.

Mercury News reporter Mike Rosenberg was the one to spot the uptick, tweeting a screen capture of the website:

While Kaepernick has skyrocketed in name recognition over the last week, some are buying the jersey in support while others are buying it to burn. However, buying the jersey to burn still means the team is making money from Kaepernick’s name and number.

The jersey was apparently on sale last week but are back up to retail price $99.99.

Kaepernick isn’t merely sitting in protest. The San Francisco 49er has pledged to donate his first million this season to community groups, saying, “I have to help these people.” The Santa Clara police have pledged to boycott 49er games in the future, saying that Kaepernick’s words could result in police officers not working security at facilities. While NFL executives have come out against Kaepernick, many are criticizing the NFL for being supportive of abusive players and those convicted of animal abuse, while refusing to support a player who is engaging in a continued act of legal act of civil disobedience.

Two other NFL players have joined Kaepernick since he began his protest.
