The suspected killers targeted Craigory Burch Jr., who worked as a forklift driver before a $434,000 jackpot he snagged in late November, authorities said.
A trio of masked men blasted their way into his Fitzgerald home, demanded his wallet and riddled Burch with bullets on two months after his big win.
Although the victim’s girlfriend recalled only three suspects inside the home during the attack, seven suspects were captured and all face malice murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and firearm possession charges, according to WALB-TV.
They were identified as Fitzgerald residents Earnest Holcomb, 27; Wayan Jordan, 17; and Rosalyn Swain, 22.
Moultrie residents Keyona Dyous, 24, and Nathaniel Baker, 28, and Tifton residents dabrentis Overstreet, 19, and Anjavell Johnson, 21, were also arrested. Jordan will be charged as an adult.
The shooter was not immediately identified.
Burch’s girlfriend Jasmine Hendricks ran for help after witnessing the gunmen slay her boyfriend.
“When they came in, he said, ‘don’t do it bro. Don’t do it in front of my kids. Please don’t do it in front of my kids and old lady,'” Hendricks said.
Burch is not the first lottery to winner to befall misfortune after stumbling upon a big stash of cash.
Chicago resident Urooj Khan died mysteriously of cyanide poisoning in June 2012, a month after winning $1 million. His widow and daughter split the estate — a lump sum of $424,000.
Jack Whitaker, who won $315 million Powerball in December 2002. had about $745,000 in cash stolen in the years following the jackpot.
In 1998, a disgruntled relative allegedly hired a hitman to kill his brother, William Post III, after he won $16.2 million.
Jeffrey Dampier was shot to death by his sister-in-law in 2005, nine years after he won a $20 million lottery.
