Did the Anti-Violence Protest in Chicago Help Decrease Violence in Chicago or Just Bring Attention to the Organizers?

Keep in mind that Rauner is a Republican and Rahm is a Democrat. The clash of tweets was a small smidge of mud that the two may have throwing to publicized the ideology of each party. Not to mention each are seeking re-election to their respective offices. Not only are each individual on the hot seat for the closing of Chicago public schools, both specifically Rahm has been chastised and even asked to step down for the lack of police accountability. Just this March, protestors gathered in front of police headquarters to demand the removal of Eddie Johnson for his support of police officers Betty Jones and mentally ill teenager Quintonio LeGrier. Although Johnson supported the police officer, a jury ordered the city to pay the families of the victiims over $16 million dollars.

In my opinion if Superintendent Johnson and Mayor Rahm want to help stop gun violence, they should start with the biggest gang in Chicago; the police.

By the same token, if Fr. Plfeger and Rev. Jackson really want to support the decrease of gun violence, they should move aside and let the victims of these tragedies to tell their story, instead of always jumping in front of the camera. I can only imagine how much more effective the protest would have been if Rie’Onna Holmon and Trevon Bosley were on TV telling theor story instead of me seeing Plfeger on every screen with a bullhorn.

The whole scenario seems fishy with these cast of characters are involved. I’m not saying some of their efforts are not sincere, but it seems that are more out for the spotlight than the solution. Well what do you think? Do you feel that the march will help decrease the violence in Chicago or just bring more attention to the so called community leaders? Leave your comments below.
