Disturbing Body Camera Footage Shows the Moment Ohio Police Officer Shot and Killed Samuel DuBose

Tensing had stopped DuBose for driving without a visible license plate. In a report, Tensing, who is white, said he was being “dragged by the vehicle,” thus requiring him to fire his gun at DuBose, who is black.

The New York Times reports that a grand jury has indicted Tensing on murder charges. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” county prosecutor Joseph T. Deters said in a press conference. “This is the most asinine act I’ve ever seen a police officer make, totally unwarranted.” Deters said the killing was purposeful, and “he never should have been a police officer.” After the indictment, Tensing turned himself in to authorities.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the city is anticipating mass protests after the release of the video. Local police are preparing for riots, and the University of Cincinnati closed its campus Wednesday before the announcement was made.

In a press conference after the indictment, DuBose’s mother, Audrey, gave a moving, tearful response to the death of her son. “I can forgive [Tensing],” he said. “I can forgive anybody. God forgave us.”
