Prior to his death, Bowie State helped raise more than $8,000 to assist with daily expenses and other needs after learning that King struggled to care for himself while undergoing rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
King, who played basketball at Bowie State before becoming sick, had vowed to return to the team once healthy.
