Interview with Bronx Rapper GC

What do you think is the road to recovery?

I can’t tell people how to recover from that and I don’t think anyone really has the answer for that. These are problems that have been here before us and it’s likely they’ll still be here after us but things have gotten a little better through time so maybe in time people will continue to evolve but honestly if anyone actually had a solution for this we wouldn’t be in these situations. For me to sit here and act like I know would be like me saying I’m ahead of everyone else, and unless i have a solution that can actually work, what’s the point in giving an opinion? All I know is the same thing we all know and that’s that we still have a lot of growing and evolving to do as a species.

Where do you think your music fits into today’s hip hop scene?

My music should be fitting in with underground scenes but I want more than that and I feel like I’m capable of more than that so I’m still working on new music and what I’ve been working on recently is better than all my previous stuff but I’ll let it speak for itself when I drop it. I feel like I’m slept on because this game is based on hype sometimes and it seems hypebeasts run things at time but I’m still pushing forward and stopping for nothing. I know what I have and I know who I am, and I won’t stop until people recognize what this is.
What role does hip hop play in your life?

Well it’s the first thing i listen to when i wake up and the last thing i hear when I go to sleep so I guess you could say it’s my culture. It’s been my way of life since I started listening to it. Hip hop raised me. I learned from the lyrics that 2Pac, Wu-Tang, Nas, DMX and all those great artists dropped. This is my way of life, all day, every day. It was the perfect soundtrack to growing up in my neighborhood as a kid and it’s still a soundtrack for me these days. The perspective has changed and grown a bit but it’s still with me.
When are you happiest and why?

I’m at my happiest when I’m recording. I catch myself in the moment and I notice how much I’m enjoying it. That’s literally when I’m having the most fun and the highlight of my week or day. When I’m in that booth I’m able to be creative and be myself.
