Interview with Chicago Rapper Sciryl da Ghost

Black Truth News: What’s the theme behind High Risk High Reward that compelled you to do two volumes?

Scriyl Da Ghost: High Risk High Reward is a lifestyle. It’s waking up every day and doing what you have to do to become the person you want to become. It’s about chasing your dreams every day with a relentless attitude. It reaches from the dudes in the streets taking risks to feed their family to high school students choosing to go to college. If you think about it, when kids decide to go to college there is no guarantee that it will result in a better situation especially when student loans are used. But it could pay off big time! High Risk High Reward can be applied to every level in life which is why I use the title.

BTN: Will there be a volume 3? If not, what can we expect next?

SDG: I will definitely be dropping a volume 3 sometime in the future. Before I put out another project I’m going to be releasing a few visuals from Volume 2. I’ve been talking with some talented videographers and I’m excited about what is planned. But as far as my next project, I’m going to be releasing an EP during the 1st quarter.

BTN: Chicago has had a historically bad summer for murders. What do you see for Chicago’s immediate future?

SDG: Yea it’s been a real bad year for Chicago. Now that summer is coming to a close it will slow down, but I really don’t see any hope for the city. There aren’t any committed programs put into place that will end the violence. On top of that, the current situation with blacks and law enforcement isn’t helping either so I don’t see anything positive happening in the future for Chicago.

BTN: What’s your favorite song on your new album and why?

SDG: My favorite joint is the second track, “No Turnin Back”. A-Foe went crazy on the production of the song with the 808s. I spazzed as soon as he played it at the studio and every time I play it I TURN UP! I just love the energy of the record and we’re thinking about shooting a video for it.
