Interview with Producer Satele

How do you feel your next album will differ?

With my next EP, I will try and use more of the resources around me. From live instrumentation to possible vocalists, anything that is at my disposal. also I want to challenge myself when it comes to the overall vision and aesthetic of the new project.

Who do you think is the most underrated producer in hiphop and why?

I honestly would say Lil Jon. His use of synths and bass definitely is what most producers in the pop world are trying to emulate. I think he has blended electric sounds and HipHop really well, even R&B.

What’s your perspective on sampling?satele 2

I love the art of sampling! I am so amazed how the pioneers of HipHop could find different sections of songs and blend them together so effortlessly. Even if the sample was a different key or was off beat, it still worked. As of now, I usually sample field recordings or maybe sound fx from different movies or songs. It’s an art b.

What beat of yours do you think you should go down in history for and why?

Honestly the beat I feel like should go down in history would probably be “Mountain” by theFWD (which I’m in that group) And the reason why is because the sample is so grimy, but triumphant. I was happy that my group mate Ceezar really enhanced what I was trying to convey. It just worked. From the heavy drums to the “lalala’s,” everything just worked.
