Knife Interview w/ Blacktruth.net

Your album Iconoclast skewers a lot of sacred cows. Which song or lyric did you think you would receive the most flak for?

To be honest, the only song that I caught any backlash from people whose opinion even remotely mattered to me, is “Choke”. Which I don’t get. It seems like such a sweet and heartfelt song. I mean, we live in the age of fake outrage so people will get mad at everything. But in general, I’ve managed to tune it out. My mom doesn’t like that I went in on Obama so much either, but it’s cool.

Were there any lines or songs that got a lot more reaction than you expected them to?

The line “I’ll still love my son if he’s gay, but i’ll kick him out the motherfucking house if he raps wack”. I’ve been rapping for a while, so when I write something brilliant I usually know, and it was a brilliant line. But the reaction it gets at shows from either people that know it’s coming or haven’t heard it before, is simply priceless.

What does the future hold for Dope Sandwich?

I just want to build the brand up, so that people identify it as a place to get quality hip hop music or whatever the fuck else I decide to put out. I just want a certain level dopeness to be expected.

Goals and plans for the year?

More releases from myself, Miggs, and some new artists to the label. Gonna take a break from touring so that I can oversee all these dope projects coming out and then we’ll hit the road again in the spring. But yes, just be on the lookout for lots and lots of new music.
