He received loads of backlash from fans for his costume choice, including an unsupportive response from Seth Rogen on Twitter. Macklemore is very aware of the criticism over his May 16 performance, and took to Twitter to issue a brief defense for his concert attire. According to Macklemore, he intended to wear a “random costume,” and was in no way trying to stereotype anybody.
