Maxine Waters’ office evacuated over suspicious package with a threatening message

The building containing Waters’ office was partially evacuated while police and a hazardous materials team investigated the package.

The Los Angeles Fire Department determined that there was no threat from the package.

“One person came in contact with the package and did not have any medical complaints,” said L.A. Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart in a statement.

According to USA Today, the investigation was referred to the FBI by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Division.

Beverly White of NBC-LA reported that the threat was deemed a hoax by authorities.

Waters has been in a heated feud with President Donald Trump with both sides launching rhetorical barbs against the other. The congresswoman had called for the impeachment of the president since before his inauguration, and in response Trump has often referred to has as “low I.Q.,” which some on the left have taken as a racist dog whistle.

Waters was also seriously criticized when she appeared to advocate for members of the Trump administration to be harassed by left-wing agitators who opposed the president’s political agenda. She denied the accusation.
