It is being reported that Alvarez had a gun, which prompted the officer to shoot at him. In the video, it can be seen Alvarez running before he tripped. The officer then rounded the corner and can be heard yelling “Drop the gun!” Drop the gun!” before firing several shots at Alvarez.

In which the officer responded by saying “You had a gun!”
In response to the video, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said: “We can’t live in a world where a minor traffic offense results in someone being shot and killed,” she said. “That’s not acceptable to me, and it shouldn’t be acceptable to anyone.”
The Alvarez family watched the video before it was released to the public. They wanted to know why the police were chasing Anthony in the first place? “The Alvarez family and their legal team will not rest until these questions are answered and justice prevails,” the family said in a statement.
