Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas apologizes for saying women should ‘dress modestly’

Raisman, a Needham native, had tweeted Friday morning in response to those who shame victims of sexual assault and seemingly justify the abuse by the clothing the victim chose to wear.

“Just because a woman does a sexy photoshoot or wears a sexy outfit does not give a man the right to shame her or not believe her when she comes forward about sexual abuse,” she wrote. “What is wrong with some of you?”

Raisman revealed in a book released this week that Larry Nassar, the US national gymnastic team’s former doctor, had allegedly sexually abused her during treatments. She joined more than 130 other women who have accused the doctor of sexual assault.
