Omari Hardwick Has An Album On the Way

A little known fact about the talented star, is his love for spoken word. If you’re familiar with TV One’s Versus and Flow, this isn’t new to you as he was the show’s host and performed spoken word pieces of his own. Omari has been spending a lot of time in the music studio lately and from the  looks of it, the actor is returning to his roots in a new project.

Taking his act from the stage to the booth, the 43-year-old actor has plans to release a full-length project called Later Decatur. Dropping “Bloodshed” earlier this year, Omari teamed up with singer-songwriter Josiah Bell to release a somber piece on horrific happenings domestically and abroad, which helped his cope with his own sense of loss. And though not a rap, his rhythmic delivery was passionate at best.

“As a poet, I would always hear emcees come up to me and say, ‘Yo, you should rap,’ and I was like, ‘No.’ You know, the label was tough for me,” Hardwick confessed in an interview with Vibe. ‘I’m a poet. I was proud of that distinction between the two, not wanting to be the other. So, I think just in terms of what God’s call for me was, I think I was to pop in a world of visibility as an actor prior to audibility as a musician…People were seeing me enough that they might listen to something I had to say even if they didn’t necessarily receive it. They’d at least give it a shot.”

No word on when the project will drop but with Power returning June 25, we can only hope his music will play an intrical part of the show.
