Pantone Is Developing an Official Purple Color For Prince

“The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever,” said Troy Carter, Entertainment Advisor to Prince’s estate in a press release.

While Prince wore various shades of purple throughout his career, Pantone says that the official shade—which will be named after his unpronounceable “Love Symbol #2″—was inspired by his custom-made Yamaha purple piano that was supposed to go on tour with him before he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 57.

According to Pantone, Prince’s estate is currently talking with several partners about collaborating on products that use the new custom color.
