I’m from the culture of Hip Hop; so I know all about that crew of dudes who have that one female who they smoke and drank with. The guys from the neighborhood got that one chick who thinks she is “just like one of the niggas.” I get all that. I’m just going to say that Lil Kim was screwing Biggie; even though he had a wife. Drake was constantly flirting with Nicki Minaj; even though she had a boyfriend. Trina was going with Trick Daddy’s brother before he died. I can go on and on. I have been in recording studios and on the block and let’s just say you can miss me with that theory. I don’t believe it and I ain’t going.
I do agree that there are exceptions to the rules, but the basis of those exceptions does not lie within the normal confines of what friendship is. The traditional energy surrounding friendship is for a man and woman to get to know each other, become friends, get married, and then have sex and reproduce. Not for us to be cool. Since this tradition is rarely practiced and reinforced in today’s world, we have crumbling relationships.
Over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce in this country. Instead of our partners searching for correction within the relationships; we settle for the convenience of someone telling us what we want to hear. This convenience leads to dependency, which in turn causes distrust. It is like that vicious cycle of a good woman who meets a man who treats her badly. She then turns bad and meets a good guy and treats him wrong. And then the cycle repeats itself again.
I know some people may say ‘damn, all this from calling him or her my friend?’ And my answer would be yes. I think when you perpetrate fraud and hold onto lies it leads to misunderstandings and mistakes.
