Sean Bell’s Fiancee Reflects on Police Shooting a Decade Later

Bell is survived by his fiancée Nicole Paultre-Bell and their daughters Jada and Jordyn Bell who still mourn his loss. Even now, their grief hasn’t completely vanished.

“When there is a highly publicized police shooting, her father’s name is brought up again. And sometimes, she may be tagged in a post, or her friends may be talking about it at school,” Paultre-Bell said. “And it is tough.”

Nicole Paultre-Bell says she can’t escape from having these difficult conversations with her daughters about the realities of police brutality, especially when their father’s fate will follow them the rest of their lives.

Remarried and with another daughter, Paultre-Bell tries to hold on to the hope that things will change for the better, eventually — “I can only hope that there is so much more done.”
