Southern Black Voters Lift Biden to Key Super Tuesday Wins

In California, where Sanders is expected to win, Biden carried 37% of American Americans, a higher vote share than any other candidate.

Biden’s support among black voters is likely to help him in upcoming primaries in battleground states like Ohio and Michigan.

It’s also a blow to Sanders, who has put considerable focus this campaign season into courting African Americans after a lack of support from black and other nonwhite voters helped doom his 2016 presidential bid.

Biden’s support among black voters wasn’t consistent across age groups, however.

In Texas, Sanders bested Biden among African Americans under the age of 30, according to exit polls. Poll results on young black voters weren’t available for other southern states because the sample size was too small.
