Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force said the countries start two days of drills on Monday in waters near Japan.
Tensions are heightened in the region as North Korea continues with a fast-developing weapons programs.
The North claims large-scale drills by the U.S. and South Korea last week made the outbreak of war “an established fact.”
The U.N. has already imposed severe sanctions against the North.
South Korea on Sunday said it’s imposing unilateral sanctions on a dozen individuals and about 20 businesses in North Korea.
