Waka Flocka vs. Pete Rock Argument Represents the Wackness of New vs. Old Hip Hop

By the same token, new rappers such as Vince Staples has been critical of the ‘old heads.’ I’m confused on why there is a division between young and old in Hip Hop. I’m not sure why the old school can’t co-exist with the new school. I talked about how the lack of unification is hurting the Hip Hop community in this article about rappers who don’t reach the age of 50. I mentioned and will reiterate how both sides could learn and help each other. Although there are some instances of newer and older artists working together, it is not as often as should be.

I agree with some of the points that Pete Rock made in his post. On the other hand, I think his tone and some of his choice of words were disrespectful. I think he was right in saying the new rappers need to pay more homage, but to outright say you are not “equal” is bogus. Likewise I agree and disagree with some of the points of the new rappers. I think more credence needs to be given to their style of rap. But like I said, I think more attention needs to be given to the origins of the culture.

Bottom line the old school versus the new school is just as wack as the 90’s East and West Coast beef. One thing that might solve some of the problems is remember that if you want respect, then you have to give respect. know in the past he and other rappers such Vince Staples have thrown shots at older rappers.
