Was Colin Kaepernick a Sellout for Accepting Buyout From NFL?

Does this agreement mean that Kaepernick achieved victory or did he simply give up? It’s hard to determine what being victorious means in this situation. Mainly because I don’t have a clear idea of what Colin’s purpose was from the start. Was he just trying to bring more awareness to the oppression and mistreatment of Blacks and minorities in this country? If so, I think he accomplished that.

He spoke about his purpose in 2016, after the first game that the media noticed he was kneeling during the national anthem. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said after the game. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” he continued. Fast forward to 2019 and he makes an agreement on a case that is basically about football. His grievance was that the owners of the NFL were conspiring to prevent him to play football.

Based on that, I have to ask once again, did Kaepernick win the fight? Maybe he did. Maybe the NFL, has decided to donate and bring awareness to community causes outside of football.

However, not knowing the details of the settlement, it’s hard to come to that conclusion. Stephen A. Smith of ESPN made this point when speaking on the situation yesterday.
