Whitney Houston Film Falls Victim To The Musical Biopic Curse

Stipulations like securing finances, license to music, estate approval, and not to mention finding the right actors for roles, are the reasons why biopics are considered as one of the most benighted genres. And it’s because of this that filmmakers try to escape the accompanying pitfalls by focusing on a particular time in the musician’s life as opposed to presenting the whole stretch from birth to death. So it’s no wonder why Don Cheadle decided to go ahead and avoid the myriad of obstacles by launching the Indiegogo campaign for his self-directed film on jazz legend Miles Davis.

And like Cheadle, despite the obstacles that usually comes into play, filmmakers aren’t giving up. As of this writing, there’s been talks of other upcoming biopic projects for 2Pac, Iggy Pop, New Edition, Marvin Gaye, Kurt Cobain, and more recently Master P. Just last month, the world got the amazing news that the long-awaited biopic on N.W.A, titled Straight Outta Compton, got the green-light by Universal, even securing a release date (August 14, 2015). However, just like that, after about two, three weeks following the announcement, Universal was put on the heat seat after that now-infamous casting call went out a few weeks ago.

Yeah, that musical biopic curse is something, isn’t it?
