Why are so many Black Women getting Plastic Surgery?

The first is social media. I wrote a whole article titled Is social media Turning Women into Hoes and Hoes into Goddess? In the article, I talked about the impact our society has on shaping our mindset about what is sexy, desirable, marketable in our society.  All you have to do is go through your timeline and I bet you can see some women with fake bodies flaunting and flossing. I just think that even for the women who don’t pay attention, it still gets embedded in their subconscious of what beauty looks like.

The second is insecurity. I know a few beautiful women who are very insecure about their appearance. By the same token, I know some women who may not be considered that attractive to some people, who walk around like they are Beyonce and Rihanna. Confidence is something that comes from the inside. It doesn’t matter if you change your body, if mentally you still lack the confidence to feel beautiful.

Last but not least, I have to blame Black Men. My reasoning behind this selection is kind of associated with the first two reasons. Black Men are so stuck on the physical attributes of our women, that we neglect to see the other good qualities that our women have to offer. Partly this is due to us looking at social media models, watching video vixens, and being ignorant to the proper ingredients that go into making a woman a good wife.

One of my lady friends told me that most women get their bodies done, so they can not only look better but feel better.  That may be true, but I have to believe if our Black Men had a different mindset in regards to choosing their companion or wife, that it will change the behavior of our women.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying every Black woman wants to get their body done or has the desire to do so. There are a lot of our sistas out here who are satisfied with what they got and more than confident to “shake what they mama gave them.”

I just wanted to kill the notion that getting a fake body is the end all, be all. A lot of times, us brothers appreciate your flaws and embrace it. Like Kendrick Lamar said in the song “Humble,” “Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks.”   In the world where it seems that perception is more acceptable than reality, it would be nice for our Black Women to know that being “natural” is cool.
