Wladimir Klitschko Retirement is a Reminder Why I Stop Watching Heavyweight Boxing

Although Klitschko lost, he still  ended his career with 54 knockouts and a 64-5 record. His longevity and impressive record might put him the ranks as one of the best ever. With all that said, he still didn’t do enough for me to get back interested in heavyweight boxing. Maybe I’m stuck in a time warp, but for me I still considered Mike Tyson the last true champ. Yeah we had Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, and Klitschko; but none of those guys have got me interested in watching heavyweight boxing. To be honest, I think that I like other Black folks like to see someone from our background in order to acknowledge the sport as official. As much hate that Mayweather gets, he still commands the attention of the ghetto. We like the cockiness, flash of a brother from the hood who talks shit and goes in the ring and backs it up. Bernard Hopkins, Zab Judah, and Roy Jones Jr. were boxers who I have checked out in recent years. On the other hand, I may have watched maybe two or three Klitschko fights throughout his career. Is it wrong that I have discriminated against him because he is not Black or frm the hood? Of course it is, but I have to be honest and let you know why haven’t watched him. I’m sure die-hard fans of boxing have appreciated his career. I’m also sure that his retirement will leave a void in the sport of boxing. Maybe him leaving will make me appreciate what he did while he was there.
