ABOUT FESTIVAL NRMAL 2014
Since 2010, FESTIVAL NRMAL in Monterrey has been contributing to Mexico’s cultural and music scene, by creating a point of collaboration with emerging artists from Latin America and the rest of the world. F/N works with leading artists, musicians, promoters, record labels, netlabels, collectives, photographers, designers, illustrators and film makers that are a part of a creative community that is inclusive and organic.
Always looking for new spaces and contexts for emerging artists, cultural agents, institutions, the FESTIVAL NRMAL platform offers a meeting point for the exchange of music and ideas. The purpose of FESTIVAL NRMAL is to promote collaboration and participation of these independent scenes from different parts of the world.
FESTIVAL NRMAL has grown steadily and its accomplishments in the last five years have permitted the festival to develop a close relationship with other Mexican festivals and solidify it’s presence in Mexico City through different activities and collaborations. The expansion to Mexico City lets FESTIVAL NRMAL imagine and create activities that make sense for the public in the Mexican capital. It also lets FESTIVAL NRMAL find new audiences and fulfull it’s mission in new spaces. As the 2014 edition of FESTIVAL NRMAL is happening in two cities that host different lineups, both audiences in Mexico City and Monterrey will have the possibility of experiencing FESTIVAL NRMAL in two different ways.
With these new relations, collaborations and a strong team behind FESTIVAL NRMAL, the programming, curated in its entirety this year in Mexico with collaborations around the world, is an effort that maintains a festival without obvious headliners and that samples nascent Latin American talent while strengthening this community in other parts of the world and also helps break these artists in Mexico and abroad. At the same time we present projects that are innovative, musically relevant before the breakneck changes in today’s musical industry climate.
In the past two years (2012 and 2013), FESTIVAL NRMAL developed a valuable partnership with New York promoter Todd P inside the programing of the festival. This year Todd P will curate a showcase in FESTIVAL NRMAL in Monterrey.
Also, we will be announcing very soon the different promoters, record labels, collectives, media and institutions that will unify and enrich the FESTIVAL NRMAL platform in 2014.
