Chicago’s Newsense

Black Truth News: Tell me how futuristic you were? Because right now the thing to do is to go independent; I recently heard Gucci Mane say in an interview that you couldn’t put a gun to his head and make him sign to a label now.

Newsense: It’s interesting you would say that, because a lot of people didn’t catch that, a lot of people didn’t respect that, some people thought I was crazy for not signing to Suave House; even looking years back seeing the situation and also seeing the rotten situation that Buc and Psyde was in for so long, now they can say ‘Newsense you made a good decision,’ but at the end of the day everybody was thinking foul of me, and I didn’t realize that a lot of people in Chicago was looking at us as like their savior ,you know like if Pschyodrama blow, they will pull us, and take us out the hood. See we had a lot of stuff on our plate when we were doing music; the difference now, is I respect the culture of music, even though I don’t buy it. I’m not going to go to the store and buy a Chief Keef album, but I respect Chief Keef.
They always ask me the Chief Keef question; I don’t have a problem with him, because if you think about it, you been there since my beginning, Chief Keef’s “Bang Bang” is no different than Psycho Drama “Itty Bitty Bang Bang,” you understand what I’m saying. Right now he’s the soul of the city for the young people and the young minds and stuff like that. I don’t knock that, but I do believe that certain type of music don’t belong in the main stream; certain music shouldn’t be in the open market. Children shouldn’t wake up in the morning and hear I’ll bang your mother, and I’m so high I can’t stand up, this is the first thing they hear when they listen to the radio. In our day it wasn’t accessible like that and that’s the difference; it’s just an over saturation of negativity with no balance.

Prime example, go and try to get your song played on the radio, and if it’s something positive, they will tell you that they don’t know how to fit it into the rotation; so these are the type of issues we have. That’s why independent is so powerful right now, because independent record labels, radio and like you doing your independent newspaper; it’s important now, because now we can cut out all the fat, what we can and can’t do, or what we can and can’t speak; they can’t control us no more. The computer is shutting people down right now with internet radio, do we really need WGCI? Tony Sco and Leon Rogers are my boys, but with the internet we don’t need anybody. Like you said, Gucci said he not signing, if any artist knows his sense of value; he knows, he don’t need it.
Black Truth News: Which artists would make you buy their music?

Newsense: I like world music. I buy stuff like Pink and the Black Eyed Peas.

Black Truth News: Any Hip Hop artists?
Newsense:  Ugh; Artists that’s out now? Considering that fact that I haven’t bought anything, but the last hip hop album I bought was “Watch the Throne” (Jay-Z & Kanye West) yeah I do Kanye. Ye is like a freaking genius, and I am not ashamed of my love for Kanye West!
