Contrary to Magic Johnson’s announcement, the dunk contest is not back! The new format where the contestants go against each other based on their conference has to change.
That goes double for the horrible “freestyle competition”; which is supposed to resemble a pre game lay up line? If the NBA wants the dunk contest to succeed, all they have to do is keep putting the best dunkers in there. Historically when the contestants are motivated to come up with new and fresh dunks for the crowd, the competition seems better. It was formula that worked in the past and also worked last night when John Wall unveiled a sick between the legs dunk. I think the format of the competition has never been a problem with the NBA Dunk-Contest; but rather the competitors who compete in it.
