Randy McIlvoy of KPRC in Houston later confirmed Van Gundy’s impromptu report after speaking with his sources close to the Sugar Land Skeeters.

Sources w/the @SL_Skeeters tell me that Tracy McGrady is eyeing pro baseball as a pitcher. CLocked at 91 MPH. Working out for 2 months.

I am also told that Tracy McGrady’s workout routine has been 2-3 times/wk throwing & working some w/Roger Clemens. @SL_Skeeters #hounews
He definitely sounds serious about this, especially if he’s calling in Roger Clemens for the occasional workout.
With that said, though, we really shouldn’t be surprised if we know our McGrady history. During an in-game interview in 2006, he revealed that baseball was his first love and something he’d love to try.
At the time he was solely focused on basketball, but his early retirement — he’s only 34 — puts him in a position to give it the old independent league try. And hey, if he’s really throwing 91 mph, he has a chance at some success at that level.
It could be a fun story to follow if McGrady lands a contract, and you know he will if he’s one-hundred percent serious about becoming the next two-sport star.
