President Trump was criticized by South African officials for a tweet regarding their seizure of land from White farmers. Trump tweeted that “I have asked Secretary of State (Mike)… Pompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers.” he stated. He also mentioned that White farmers were being force off their land in South Africa. In response to Trump’s comments, South Africa government officials stated “South Africa totally rejects this narrow perception which only seeks to divide our nation and reminds us of our colonial past.”  South Africa also stated that “South Africa will speed up the pace of land reform in a careful and inclusive manner that does not divide our nation. “

South Africa’s decision to exercise land reform is a result of the White community in the country that makes up eight percent of the population  but “possess 72 percent of farms.”  In comparison Black people make up four-fifths of the population but only own four percent of the land.
