Stanford’s Barry Sanders Jr. simply trying to follow his Hall of Fame father’s approach

Sanders Jr. said the discussions he has with his dad are rarely about football, and he tries to pattern himself after the way his father approached the game.

“If anything he leads by example,” Sanders Jr. said. “He doesn’t really tell me a whole lot, but he definitely leads by example and I try to emulate some of the things just off the field and how he would go about playing the game. I’ve watched a lot of film of him and that speaks for itself.”

His father’s football prowess lives in one other place — video games.

But Barry Sanders Jr. says you have to play the old-school games to see him.

“I don’t have the old Sega stuff anymore, I think those games are a bit outdated,” he said. “But I know there are good YouTube clips of him on Tecmo Bowl or whatever. Those are before my time.”
